Further Details for the AGM on Sunday 22 January 2023

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING: Sunday 22 January 2023 @ 10.30am

Our AGM will be held as part of our 10.30am in person services (both Balerno & Livingston).

Our church constitution requires that 25% of all who are eligible, must attend the AGM for it to be considered a valid meeting in the eyes of our charity regulator, OSCR.  This means we absolutely need at least 130 church members aged 16 and over to be present at one of our 10.30am in person services.

What will be covered at the AGM?
We will be covering our usual formal business which includes affirming the reappointment of:

  • Francis Cummings as the Lay Representative to the Diocese

  • Alison Wilson as the Alternate Lay Representative to the Diocese

Alison Wilson will be stepping down from the role of People’s Warden.  Therefore, you will also be invited to affirm the following:

  • Brodie Petrie as People's Warden [this appointment does not have a fixed length and is usually for a period longer than the regular 3 year length of service for a Vestry member]. Photo of Brodie below.

You will also be invited to affirm the appointment of two new Vestry Members [photos below]:

  • Emma Galloway

  • Dave Roberton

Emma and Dave have been nominated by the Vestry to succeed Tracey Braithwaite & Gill Scott as they reach the end of their terms of service.  You can see the full Vestry membership, and find out more about their role, on this link https://stmungos.org/vestry

As is customary, further background information about Brodie, Emma and Dave is set out below:

Brodie has been at St Mungo's for 18 years. Mum of three, Brodie is a Little Wonders team leader and has previously served on Vestry, the hosting team and led a prayer cell.  A qualified accountant, Brodie and her husband Rod run their own bookkeeping and accounting practice.

Emma joined St Mungos when she was a student at Heriot-Watt.  She is a member of the worship and tech team and co-ordinates the St Mungo's teams that volunteer on Bethany's Care Van twice a month.  Along with her husband, Mark, she leads a house group and a prayer cell.  After working 30 years in the charity sector, Emma runs her own business providing Project/Change Management and Interim Leadership to charities.  Emma is an active volunteer in the community with Balerno Village Trust and represents them on Balerno Community Council.  Emma is also chair of two charities - Edinburgh Food Project and Edinburgh Social Enterprise.

Dave is a chartered accountant and works as the Finance Director in a financial services company in Edinburgh.  He joined St Mungo’s in 2014 with his wife, Lyndsey, and daughter, Aimee.  They welcomed their son, Finn, in 2017.  Both Dave and Lyndsey were born in Scotland but met for the first time in India where they were both volunteers with the Church of North India.  Dave is part of the Livingston congregation and serves on the worship team playing electric guitar.

How will we affirm these nominations?
We will be using paper affirmation forms for those attending the services in person and an electronic form for those viewing the service online.  Exactly how we do this will be explained at the AGM itself but rest assured your participation will be confidential.

Auditor Update
Our auditor, Ralph Tiffin from McLachlan + Tiffin, has notified the Vestry of his intention to retire so we won’t be reappointing him as our auditor, as we usually do, at our AGM.  We are very grateful to Ralph for his wisdom and service to us as our auditor, and will be seeking a new auditor for appointment later this year.

What won't be covered at the AGM?
Consistent with the last couple of years, Ollie will be sharing his Vision talk later in the year.

What if I can't attend the AGM in person?
A ChurchSuite email will be sent out on the morning of the AGM which will contain an electronic affirmation form which you should submit by the end of the service.

A copy of the Annual Vestry Report and the AGM agenda, will be sent to you next week [week beginning 16 January].

Thank you in advance for your support.
